Level 1 General Principles is now online for free.
The Australian Sports Commission has made the 3hr General Principle component a free online course.
ASC writes "The Beginning Coaching General Principles course has been developed to help coaches improve their basic coaching skills, particularly those coaches working with children. A major benefit of the online course is that coaches can complete it in their own time. Thanks to a subsidy from the Australian Sports Commission, the online course is initially available free of charge to Australian coaches."
Baseball Queensland will be taking advantage of this opportunity and will no longer be delivering the "General Principle", 3 hr evening component of the Level 1 Baseball Coach Accreditation. After the completion of the online component each participant will receive a certificate and this will be used as evidence to Baseball Queensland that the participant is competent for this section. The online course can be completed before (strongly recommended) or after the practical, on field component of the Level 1 Baseball Coach Accreditation course.
The online General Principles component must be completed and submitted to Baseball Queensland, along with attending the on field practical component, before the participant's Level 1 accreditation is processed.

Vale Des Knight - A message from Windsor Royals
Passing of Mr. Desmond Knight.
It is with sad regret that we inform you today of the passing of one of our Clubs forefathers, Windsor Royals Life Member Mr. Desmond Knight. Desmond or Des as he was known, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Saturday 21st August 2010 at the age of 91. Des was a founding member of the Windsor Royals Baseball Club, and part of the team who built the field and erected the grandstand. The main grandstand at Holloway Field is named in his honour, for the tireless work and effort that he gave the Club for most of his life.
Des was also the groundsman for the club for 25 years, and spent much of his time coaching and umpiring as well.
From all the members of the Windsor Royals, our thoughts and prayers are with the Knight family during this time.
A memorial for Des Knight will be held at Holloway Field on September 2nd 2010 at 3pm.

Women's Summer Baseball Season to kick of for the 2010/11 season.
A League Of Their Own - Women's Summer Baseball Season
Hello Everyone,
I would like to inform all those players that are interested in playing in the inaugural Women’s Summer Baseball League that the schedule will commence on the 2nd of October till 27th of November (8 weeks). The location will be Redlands Baseball and have a B grade game from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and followed by the A grade game from 7:30 pm to 9:30pm.
The goal of the A grade competition is to give an opportunity to develop baseball skills, play high quality games and get a greater understanding of how to play the game at its highest standard. This will also give the QLDState coaches an opportunity to evaluate players for possible selection onto the Rams State Squad and play in the National Championships in April 2011.
The B grade will be social comp like the masters in which beginners can play, there is also the consideration to have a safety ball, pitching distance can be closer as well as base distance of 80 feet instead of regular 90 feet.
This new league of their own will be a fantastic opportunity to showcase women’s baseball to Queensland and we will need everyone’s commitment and support. Thank you!
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me on

The Active After Schools Community Program can provide clubs and regions the opportunity to employ coaches to conduct recruitment programs
Clubs and Regions - Make Money Through Clinics
If your club is looking for ways to pay people to promote the benefits of joining your club the Active After School Communities Program is for you. Redlands Baseball Club, All Stars Baseball Club, Townsville Indians Baseball Club and Cairns Junior Baseball League have all jumped on board and are reaping the benefits of being able to pay their own coaches to deliver recruitment clinics to schools in their own areas. For more info on how to get your club involved please follow the link below or contact:
Wests Baseball Club, after a visit from the Lord Mayor of Brisbane (Campbell Newman) and the local Councillor (Milton Dick), is to be redeveloped as a multi sport site along with Centenary Soccer Club. After a lot of work putting together a case, BCC have considered West's requests and will be giving the club what it wants. Steve Scott (President) has been the driving force behind a pro-active committee. Al Connors (Club Coach) has been the mastermind behind what is needed. That is the senior field and two junior fields being a better long term idea for the club, BQ and possibly the ABL.
Instead of the soccer club utilising the baseball fields in winter, they will have two new soccer fields and the baseball club will have three baseball diamonds. They will be totally sealed and the whole baseball area will be resurfaced. Work has commenced on the soccer fields and as soon as these are completed then the work starts on the baseball fields. This may put off baseball at Wests for a couple of months into the new season, but I am sure we can all forgive this if we get a great showpiece for our sport.
There is a link below to sight the aerial shot with the new baseball diamonds superimposed.
Baseball Queensland will hold the 2010 Queensland Junior State Titles on the following dates:
U14 QLD State Titles - 18, 19, 20 September 2010.
U16 QLD State Titles - 24, 25, 26 September 2010.
U18 QLD State Titles - 1, 2, 3 October 2010.
Venues are yet to be determined for these events. If your club is interested in hosting one of these events please read over the "State Championship Hosting Criteria" and submit an application to Baseball Queensland by no later than 1st February 2010.
